Getting Past A Relationship Test And Moving On To Happiness

by Michelle Bery

As anyone who is in a committed relationship will tell you, love is most certainly not enough when it comes to finding happiness in a partnership. Trust, communication, respect, and reciprocal friendship are important components in any relationship and the death of any one of these essential ingredients can often spell disaster for the relationship as a whole. But the fact remains that in the course of our union we will all be faced with an inevitable relationship test that can have one of several outcomes – the ending of the relationship, the continuing of the relationship that is now forever damaged by the event, or the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship – one that signifies a much stronger union and the promise of a happy future.

One such relationship test is one in which the trust of either or both partners is tested in the face of infidelity. There are many reasons that infidelity occurs in a relationship but it is – without fail – always indicative of a much larger problem in the relationship. In most cases, the partner who discovers the infidelity will immediately end the relationship or perhaps continue in the relationship because there are children involved or financial reasons that make the continuance of the union a practical decision. In either case, the couple has lost the opportunity to emerge from the experience stronger and much more committed to a future in which they both feel a part. If both parties are invested in the continuing of the relationship, professional counseling can provide a chance to get to know each other again and rebuild a solid foundation of trust. As incredible as it may sound, this relationship test can be one – that if passed – can deliver the couple to new heights of love and partnership.

Many a couple has experienced a relationship test in which finances are the star. Money is one of the prime factors over which couples argue and even separate. This often comes from a base history of handling money differently – based upon the ways in which we were all taught to think about finances from our parents. When two people come together with very different financial compasses, they are often left feeling frustrated and disrespected by each other. There is financial counseling available that works with couples of this very kind. Such counseling allows couples to move past their preconceived ideas about money and reformulate a shared goal and plan for finances in their relationship. If statistics are correct, then 50% of couples who face this financial relationship test have failed – losing each other to their different feelings about money. But if you approach this situation as a challenge and seek resources that can help you redefine your relationship in this capacity, you can move on to a respectful relationship with shared values.

Every couple will face a relationship test in their lifetime; such is the inevitability of love. But if you love and respect each other enough, you can move through the challenge and emerge into a place of light, love, and happiness.

Free Romance Compatibility Quiz - 8 Questions

by Susan Willis

These days, there are a lot of great ways to meet new people for a romantic encounter or to start a relationship; online dating sites, Internet chat rooms and speed dating events have been added to the more traditional ways of meeting a potential mate such as bars, vacations, work and through introductions from friends.

However, meeting someone new is just half the battle. Doing a little homework now could mean the difference between romantic bliss and getting stuck with the relationship equivalent of a lemon.

Here are 8 questions to ask yourself:

Question 1: Do you excite each other physically? It is important that you feel physically attracted to one another. Reason: some people who are feeling desperate to find a mate might resort getting serious with someone who seems to be a “great persona but for whom they lack any attraction. Big mistake!

Question 2: Is it easy to keep a conversation going? After a couple of years have passed, most couples report a cooling off in their sex life. It is at this point that it becomes particularly important that you actually find each other interesting to be around, not just nice looking or good in bed.

Question 3: Do you have similar standards of hygiene and cleanliness? Maybe your mate looks well-groomed in public, while their workplace or home remains a perpetual pigsty. If this is so and you are someone who prefers things to be spot-free, you could be heading for trouble.

Question 4: Are you accepting of each other's religious beliefs? As the world gets smaller, people are increasingly marrying outside of their faith. While it is not important that you agree on all things religious, it is important that both of you are accepting of any differences of belief you have.

Question 5: Do you feel comfortable around each other's families and friends? When you get into a serious relationship with another person, you have little choice but to link into their family and friend network. When you do, stay in tune with how you feel when around them.

Question 6: Are you on the same page financially? Money can be one of the biggest sources of anxiety for people in relationships. Some people tend to be savers, while others tend to spend. Neither way is inherently wrong, but it is helpful if the two of you manage money in a similar way.

Question 7: Do you hold similar views about the importance of having children? If the female member of your relationship is still of a child-bearing age, you owe it to yourselves to have a talk about how each of you feels about having kids; you want to avoid finding yourself at an impasse on this issue down the road.

Question 8: Are you able to accept the other persona political views? Some couples are able to peacefully ignore any political differences between them: after all, do any two people on the planet see exactly eye to eye on all things political? Be cautious, however, if you are not accepting of each other's views.

Okay, go ahead and tally up your yes answers and check the chart below to see how you did.

8 Yeses: Stop what you are doing and book a trip to Vegas right now!

6-7 Yeses: You have a very good thing going on here. Be sure to keep your eyes open for any potential deal-breakers and, meanwhile, have fun with it!

3-5 Yeses: Proceed with caution. Sure, things could work out with this person, but why chance it? Stay open to the possibility that there is someone even more suited to you out there.

0-2 Yeses: Run away while you still can and do not look back.

Is it wise to trust the future of your love life to a quiz you found online? You know better than that. But, before you discount the results, think again. Most people who have been in relationships that have lasted for more than a few months will tell you that there are certain things that just have to be right for the relationship to last.

The 5 Main Types of Compatibility

by Datepad

You could live 100 lifetimes with somebody and never be just like them. There will always be differences between you; differences of opinion or preference, or even just differences of perspective. It's what makes relationships both wonderfully exciting and completely frustrating. It's also what makes compatibility so important. There will always be differences between you and whoever you end up with. But if you choose somebody who's compatible with you in many ways, the chances of those differences getting in the way of your relationship are minimized.

While there are countless areas in which a couple may or may not be compatible, below you'll find the five main areas of relationship compatibility.

Spiritual Compatibility. In most cases, the whole point behind having a romantic relationship with somebody is to work towards building a life together. And most people have a fairly clear idea of how that life should be... and how religion or spirituality should fit into it. If somebody you're dating looks at religion in a completely different way from you, it can sometimes be difficult to move forward and make the big decisions in your relationship. In fact, spirituality is such a big compatibility issue that hundreds of internet dating sites are dedicated to just about every religion out there.

Social Compatibility. When you first start dating somebody, the fact that you like to go out while he or she prefers to stay in can seem like an insignificant difference of opinion. But as a relationship progresses, different ways of dealing with social situations or looking at your social life can turn into big arguments. Couples who have similar feelings about when to go out and when to stay in tend to have a big advantage over couples who are always at odds.

Emotional Compatibility. We all have very different ways of seeing and reacting to the world around us. One person might be changeable and volatile in their emotions, while the other is steady and even-keeled. Fortunately, emotional compatibility doesn't always mean that both people in a relationship should be equally volatile or equally steady. Sometimes people with quite different emotional instincts can do a great job of balancing each other out.

Intellectual Compatibility. Intellectual compatibility is closely tied up with several things that have a huge effect on the success of a relationship: respect, perspective, and long-term companionship. If you and somebody you're dating are not on an intellectual par, it may do damage to your relationship in the long run. At the beginning, the physical and emotional stuff tends to push aside any intellectual concerns. But intellectual compatibility is important for a relationship's long-term success, and for your own long-term contentment. After all, if your relationship is successful, there will come a time when each of you has heard almost everything the other has to say. If you have nothing to talk about at the beginning of the relationship, where will it be in a few years' time?

Physical Compatibility. Just because this one is at the bottom of the list doesn't mean it's not one of the most important! We all know that feeling physically attracted to somebody we're dating in important for getting the relationship off of the ground at all. But it's also important for the health of the relationship in the long run. Sure, established relationships tend to be less physical than new ones. But sex is an important part of emotional closeness, and without attraction it can be difficult to have a healthy romantic relationship.

Most of us have dated enough to realize that the chance of finding that perfectly compatible mate is slim to none. But with the modern dating tools we have at our fingertips, such as internet dating sites, profiles, and internet dating compatibility tools, finding somebody whose heart, mind, and perspective matches yours is a heck of a lot easier than it used to be. And if you choose a compatible partner, your chances of success in the long run are that much higher.

There are many different criteria for taking the tests in question. Some ask you for astrological information, others ask for likes and dislikes.

Then based upon those results, then you will be presented with compatibility information. The list of these tests is extensive, but they can be fun to take. They can compare such things as your name based on numerology, likes and dislikes, and astrological signs for starters. Some funny love tests can also tell you what species of dog or cat you may be and how you compare with your significant other.

Let's compare a love test found on GaGirl. One particular quiz asks what you wear to turn someone on. It gives you several variables such as items of clothing and then gives you a score based on that and what the results say about romance. Another favorite is the zodiac compatibility test. All you do is enter both your names and the test will calculate your compatibility based upon astrological sign. One of interest is the Fortune Teller which after you input certain information as age sex, gender and email address, gives you feedback.

One claims to tell you whether it is love or infatuation. Another of note is Are You Hot? So there are many different types of love tests for anyone to take on a great many websites. The popularity of these sites attests to the popularity of taking these types of tests. As there are many different quizzes for different sections of love and relationships, there are many different ones to take. Most should be taken with a grain of salt and state that it is for entertainment only.

They are a fun way to see your compatibility, for example. With so many different sites to choose from, you may have a hard time choosing just one to take. So love tests will always be a part of the popular culture.

7 Ways To Tell When You’re In Love

by Alex Daniels

Are you in love? If you are asking yourself this question, it’s obviously a possibility. If you want to know for sure, take a glance at the following checklist to see how many of the following love signs you are seeing.

You get butterflies in your stomach. When people first starting dating, you may hear them say they have butterflies in their stomach. The truth is that what they are experiencing is the jitters because, like the creatures themselves, butterflies take some time to develop. Even after you’ve dated someone for a long time and the jitters stop, the butterflies are still there. It’s when they are no longer there that it’s time to worry, but you know you’re in love whenever they’re around.

When you think about the future, you envision him/her in it. If someone asked you how you see your life in 5 or 10 years from now? What’s the first thought that comes into your mind and, more importantly, who is there with you? If you foresee a future with your current partner, you may be in love.

After a difficult day, he/she makes everything seem better. Whether you’ve had a difficult day at work or just feel awful for whatever reason, your love interest should be able to make you forget about everything. If all of the bad goes right out the window when you’re together, take comfort in knowing that you’re in love.

You think of your sweetheart’s needs before your own. Selflessness is one of the single best examples of love because it shows that you are putting the other person first. This doesn’t mean that you forget about everything that’s important to you, but it does mean that you keep your partner’s interests at heart and always do what you can to make them happy.

Several days apart feel like an eternity. Do you miss your mate when work gets in the way or a vacation has the two of you temporarily apart? If you can’t wait to get back just to hear their voice, see their smile or find out what he/she is doing, you’re in love.

When you think of him/her or say their name, you can’t stop smiling. Ok, this is the true test of love. How many times have you watched as people talk about their significant other and a smile suddenly crosses their face? When this happens, what do you think? It’s obvious, they are in love with their mate and if you cannot stop smiling when speaking about your sweetheart, you too are in love.

You feel loved when you are together. What makes us fall in love with someone? Is it their kind heart, honesty or because we just feel unexplainably happy when together? One of the most attractive characteristics about someone is their ability to make us feel loved, cherished and appreciated. If you feel all of this when you are with your mate, love is definitely in the air.
